This new Level 4 standard comprises:
A Level 3 Diploma
Functional Skills Maths and English at Level 2
End-point assessment at Level 4
Pathway 1: Practitioner in Children's Residential Care.
Please note: this is not an Early Years qualification.
Be working in an environment where you are supervising and working with residential children and young people - on a minimum of 30 hours per week contract.
Undertake the Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide evidence of the results
Have a good standard of English and maths
Along with more information on the Institute for Apprenticeships, you will gain knowledge and understanding of:
membership of gangs
radicalisation and the Prevent agenda
harm to children and vulnerable adults
You will learn a range of behaviours to adopt depending on the situation and will also cover:
the importance of communication to families
child, adolescent and adult development
the spectrum of the child's or young person's needs
how to support families
the principles of effective assessment and the importance of analysis and professional judgement.
The course features Functional Maths and English at Level 2 and ICT will be embedded throughout.
There is an end-point assessment.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be undertaken by your assessor and the process will be carefully planned and supported.
The end-point assessment will be undertaken by an individual from the awarding body.
Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?
A percentage of the cost for the apprenticeship will be met by the employer, depending on the apprentice's age. This will be discussed at the initial stage of enrolment.
The Diploma itself costs £1,500 - which could be covered by a student loan - if you do not want to do the apprenticeship.
What can I do after this course?
You could consider taking a relevant Level 5 qualification.
You could also progress your career as a supervisor in a residential environment.
