Course Summary

This programme enables you to cover:


  • Adult care practices, principles and standards - including care planning, duty of care, professional boundaries and individual dignity and respect
  • Supporting individual physical and mental wellbeing to help people live as independently as possible - including individual control and choice and person-centred care
  • Safeguarding - including addressing personal rights and safety, dealing with abuse, comments and complaints, and whistleblowing
  • Leadership and team management - including monitoring and reviewing care plans and encouraging others to comply with regulations, policies and procedures
  • Communication skills - including advocacy, confidentiality and verbal, non-verbal and written communication
  • Health and safety practices and standards within a care environment - including dealing with accidents, fire safety, hazardous substances and infection control.

The apprenticeship also features Functional Maths and English at Level 2. Overall, 20% of the programme entails off-the-job training.

Entry requirements

You should:

  • Be working in a supervisory role
  • Have completed and achieved a Level 2 Health and Social Care Certificate - or have extensive relevant experience
  • Have achieved Level 1 qualifications in Maths and English or the equivalent (if you haven't got these qualifications, you will need to be screened and achieve Level 1)
  • Have received a DBS certificate before training can proceed.

Course Content

The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Adult Care Worker includes the:

  • Care Certificate
  • Diploma 
  • Maths and English Level 2 qualifications (which have to be completed before the end point assessment)
  • End point assessment which consists of two parts - a professional discussion and a situational judgemental test.

20% of the programme is off-the-job training which can be completed at work.
