Course Summary

This Apprenticeship Standard, which covers the work of a Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician, is for people who have secured employment in the construction industry.  You will be expected to demonstrate competence in both the workplace and College, developing practical skills and job knowledge.

To support your main programme of study, future progression and life skills, you will also develop your skills in maths and English.

Entry requirements

You need GCSEs at grade C and above, but previous experience in the industry will be considered.

Course Content

  • Selecting, planning, installation, testing, commissioning and de-commissioning, service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair techniques
  • Installation and testing techniques for electrical components and control systems on plumbing and domestic heating systems
  • Taking responsibility for own work and safety and welfare of others
  • Maths and English

How will I be assessed?

 

This Standard will be assessed through an End-Point Assessment including:

  • Theory Test
  • Design Project
  • Practical Installation Test
  • Practical Application Test
  • Professional Discussion

Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

Your employer should provide you with the necessary Personal Protective Equipment.

 

What can I do after this course?

You can progress to supervisory or professional career routes or specialise in options such as gas, oil, solid fuel or environmental technologies.
