Course Summary

This is a professional qualification for students wanting a career in the beauty therapy industry.  You will be working towards the City & Guilds NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy – which could be your first step towards a role as a junior beauty therapist within a salon or a health spa.

Entry requirements

You need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a keen interest in your chosen subject. Offers of a place on the course are dependent on your qualifications and practical aptitude. You will need:

  • a minimum of five GCSEs at grade D or above including English and/or Maths (grade 3/ 4 or above) and Science.

You will have an interview and initial assessment. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the interview but not the initial assessment. A small portfolio of your work will be required at the interview or taster day. If you are successful, you will be allocated a place to study.

Course Content

As part of the Level 2 apprenticeship, you may study a selection of the following:

  • Provide nail treatments: manicure/pedicure
  • Provide facial treatments
  • Provide waxing treatments
  • Provide eye treatments: tinting/shaping
  • Provide make-up treatments
  • Preparing and maintaining the salon
  • Salon reception duties
  • Health and safety
There is also a range of optional units to select from, with guidance from our Beauty team.
You will also develop your skills in maths and English, which will support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a range of methods including practical observation, written tests, assignments and preparing a portfolio of evidence.  Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

What can I do after this course?

Further study

Our teaching staff will advise you on the wide range of progression opportunities available, including Level 4 qualifications.  If you progress to further study, you will continue to develop your skills in maths and English. 

You can advance your career in salons or in self-employment.
