This course, leading to a City & Guilds qualification, helps meet the growing demand for highly skilled barbers. It gives students a broad understanding of the industry, together with essential skills and knowledge.
As well as delivering technical training, the course fosters transferable skills such as communication and customer care. To support their main programme of study, future progression and life skills, students will also develop their skills in maths and English.
You need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a keen interest in your chosen subject. Offers of a place on the course are dependent on your qualifications and practical aptitude. You will need:
You will have an interview and initial assessment in English and maths. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the interview but not the initial assessment. A small portfolio of your work will be required at the interview or taster day. If you are successful, you will be allocated a place to study.
The qualification is assessed as learners progress through their apprenticeship programme. The final part of the qualification is the end-point assessment.
Apart from the end-point assessment, all assessment will be carried out by the training provider/centre as specified by the awarding organisations. The end-point assessment is carried out by an independent apprenticeship examiner at the end of the apprenticeship, similar to a trade test.
Apprenticeships will be graded at Pass or Distinction level depending on the learner's performance in the end-point assessment.
Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.
To be advised.
Our teaching staff will be happy to advise you on opportunities for progression to Level 3 qualifications. If you progress to further studies, you will continue to develop your skills in maths and English.
This course also paves the way for rewarding careers in a commercial salon or working as a freelance barber.
