Course Summary

This apprenticeship is for people who are currently employed - or have just secured a role - in the plumbing industry.  You will be expected to demonstrate competence in both the workplace and College, building practical skills and job knowledge.

To support your main programme of study, future progression and life skills, you will also develop your skills in maths and English.

Entry requirements

You need GCSEs at grade C/4 and above, but previous experience in the industry will be considered.

Course Content

  • Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering
  • Understand and apply domestic hot water system installation and maintenance
  • Understand and apply domestic above-ground drainage system installation and maintenance techniques
  • Install and maintain domestic heating systems
  • Maths and English

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by:

  • A GOLA online knowledge assessment and externally set assignment
  • A portfolio of evidence and assessment in the workplace

Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

Your employer should provide you with Personal Protective Equipment.

What can I do after this course?

You can progress to the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating, specialising in options such as gas, oil, solid fuel or environmental technologies.
