You will be provided with a foundation in a broad range of skills required to work competently within the animal care industry. Practical skills will be mostly practised and developed in the workplace while theoretical background knowledge will be taught and reviewed mainly at College.

If you are a mature learner, we may be able to take into consideration your previous experience in your chosen subject. Applicants will be interviewed, will undertake an initial assessment in English and maths, and must present an example of current work.
The apprenticeship includes:
Training is largely work-based, with ongoing practical assessments undertaken in your workplace. You will keep a portfolio of evidence of your practical ability and theoretical understanding.
At the end of your apprenticeship you will undertake an end-point assessment where your skills will be confirmed with an industry specialist to achieve your diploma. This will be through a practical and written assessment.
You will need safety boots, a lab coat, waterproofs and writing materials.
For apprentices over the age of 19, an employer contribution is required towards the cost of training.
You can consider taking your qualification to the next level with an advanced apprenticeship, the Diploma in Work-based Animal Care Level 3 or the City & Guilds Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Care. You can also progress within your career in the animal care industry.
