The Prince's Trust at Derby College

Discover something that will bring out the best in you. The Prince’s Trust Team Programme will really put your life on track – in the space of just 60 exhilarating days..

A unique opportunity

The Prince’s Trust has teamed up with Derby College to help change young lives. Almost anyone aged 16 to 25 can join this pioneering personal development programme: it’s all about giving you a better chance to move into a job, education or training and improving your long-term career prospects.

In 12 weeks, you‘ll gain work experience and qualifications alike. You’ll improve your existing skills and develop new ones through working on worthwhile community projects. You’ll have help with job-hunting and writing your CV too. But, most of all, the experience will bring a big boost to your confidence and a real sense of achievement.

Take up the challenge

The programme is informal and stimulating. You’ll work in a team of up to 16 young people of different ages, backgrounds, circumstances and abilities. So it’s a superb opportunity to make friends and have fun while learning.

There are no entry qualifications. You just need to be aged between 16 and 25 and to be ready to make positive changes in your current situation. You’ll also undertake an interview before the start of the course.

Chart a new direction

There are four key stages in the programme:

  • A one-week team building residential which involves problem solving and outdoor activities to improve your confidence, motivation, teamwork, target setting and project planning skills.
  • A team community project to benefit an organisation or neighbourhood of your choice. You’ll stretch your imagination and test your decision making skills. Work placements and career development will also help you to chart a future direction.
  • A final team challenge in which you’ll work in the wider community, putting into practice your valuable new skills such as planning and organisation.
  • A celebration of your achievements, where you will share your experiences with an invited audience and receive your certificate.

You’ll develop a wide range of skills during the 12 weeks. You could also achieve impressive qualifications to add to your CV, such as the Prince’s Trust Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills.
