Course Summary

This pathway covers all job roles for advanced IT application specialists working in any industry sector. 

Entry requirements

GCSE passes in English and Maths graded A-C would be advantageous.

You also need to be:

  • A proactive fast learner
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Able to focus on assisting customers and colleagues, and find solutions to problems
  • Able to pay good attention to detail and to deliver what is required, when it is required
  • Open to change, with the ability to focus on the requirements of your organisation at all times.

Course Content

  • Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT at Level 2
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed at your workplace via observations, personal reports, witness testimonies, work products and questions and answers.

Functional Skills will be assessed via exams.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

You will need to have any personal protective equipment (PPE) required to legally and safely undertake your role.

What can I do after this course?

You can progress to a Level 4 programme in Information Technology.

From Derby College to Workforce Planning Manager at Barclays Bank

After finishing school I wanted to focus specifically on IT and achieved better results when doing course work so chose a BTEC National Diploma at Derby College. I really enjoyed focusing solely on IT but having various different disciplines with the IT, it gave me a varied understanding of what is expected within each different branch of IT. My time at the College gave me an understanding of different roles that I could do in a work environment and what skills are applicable in each field. I use of the technical programming skills I learnt at the College on a day to day basis.

The most exciting part of my current role is training and developing new staff members, helping them to learn new technical process and learning transferable skills that can go across the industry.
