Course Summary

Are you interested in starting a career in digital support services? Wanting to gain the essential knowledge and skills to work in digital roles by understanding data and digital systems, how software and business interact, security, testing, planning and legal issues? T Levels can offer you an attractive alternative to A-levels and apprenticeships.

T Levels have been designed with employers to give you the skills that industry needs. The Digital T Level provides a mixture of technical knowledge and skills specific to the digital industry, an industry placement of at least 45 days and the relevant maths, English and digital skills you will need to succeed.

Entry requirements

You need five GCSEs to include English and Maths at a grade 4/C.

You should have also gained a GCSE in a subject relevant to the digital content you will be studying on this T Level.

Course Content

The core components provide a broad understanding of the digital industry and the breadth of content will help to ensure you are able to apply the skills in a variety of contexts and for a variety of different purposes.

Looking at digital infrastructure, digital support and network cabling, you will learn how to apply procedures and controls to maintain the digital security of an organisation and its data. You will also learn how to explain, install, configure, test and manage both physical and virtual infrastructure whilst discovering, evaluating and applying reliable sources of knowledge.

How will I be assessed?

The core knowledge and understanding will be assessed through an examination and core skills through a practical employer-set project.

In addition to this, maths, English and general digital skills will be integrated within the qualification in occupationally relevant contexts.

Achieving this qualification will give you an advantage when applying for a job in digital infrastructure, network cabling and digital support or when progressing to further study.

Sam Mount

Logging into a social media career

Apprentice Sam Mount is helping Derby’s Cathedral Quarter Hotel to improve its social media presence. He is one of three apprentices recruited by the hotel across its operations in a new partnership with Derby College. One of the city’s top boutique establishments, the hotel is a business focused on customer experience, and values its social media credibility highly.
 
Sam’s work plays an important role in communicating and engaging with customers as well as building the hotel brand through creative platforms. He attends Derby College on day release every two months as he works towards an NVQ award.

While the social side of university life appealed to me, I wasn’t convinced that I wanted to study for three years, especially when there was no guarantee of a job at the end of it. I’d always been interested in both the software and hardware aspects of computer technology, so when I saw the social media opportunity on the national apprenticeship website, I decided to give it a go.
