Typically, you will have at least five GCSEs graded 4 - 9 / A*- C, including English Language and Maths.
Alternatively you may have equivalent intermediate qualifications at Merit grade or above, along with GCSE grade 4/C in English Language and Maths.
While studying the Creative Digital Multi Media pathway you will take between eight and 13 units, culminating in a final major project.
These units will develop your understanding of how different media institutions operate to create products that appeal to specific target audiences. The units also develop your transferable skills such as critical and contextual awareness, planning, design and research skills, and leadership skills. Throughout the course, you will understand how digital multimedia products are used and learn how to design, create and test a product.
Other skills that will be developed include working in a team, communication, adaptability and evaluation. You will also have opportunities to find out from employers how the skills and knowledge you acquire are used in the workplace.
There is internal assessment, where your tutor assesses your work which is also externally moderated.
Every unit achieved will be graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Qualifications are graded using a Pass, Merit, Distinction (and referral) structure. If you don’t achieve a Pass in a unit, it will be graded as a referral. You must gain at least a Pass for every unit to be awarded the qualification.
Students should be advised that some university degree courses require them to have gained a GCSE at C grade or above in Maths and English. Students may be advised to complete these qualifications to ensure they have the best possible chance to progress to higher education.

Former Media Studies learner James Radford is revelling in his first job with a creative agency. He has secured a role as a Production Assistant with Derby based Matchstick Design.
His main responsibility is to help ensure smooth work flow in the studio – taking briefs, dealing with suppliers and seeing jobs through to delivery. He’s also preparing images for use in wide ranging projects and assisting with research.
With further experience, he aims to take on a more senior role on the creative side of the business.
