Course Summary

This course is aimed at existing students with additional learning needs who need support to move into meaningful voluntary work or paid employment.

As part of the course, students will develop work-readiness skills and work-related maths and English skills.

Entry requirements

All applicants must have a desire to work, an SEN (Statement of Educational Need) or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

All applicants will have an individual guidance interview to assess their needs and suitability for the course.

Course Content

This three-day (full-time) course is flexible around each student's needs and their placement.

Usually, in the first half term, two days are spent at College and the remaining hours are within a workplace - with the balance changing as students progress.

Initially students will participate in job-matching activities, travel training (if required) and work placement tasters.

Stretching learning goals are set, including in English and maths.

How will I be assessed?

Students will keep a work skills reflective diary which is assessed throughout the year.

Maths, English and a personal target will be reviewed every half term.

Learning support needs will be assessed by the employer, lecturer and support team on a regular basis.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

You will be asked to make a voluntary contribution to trips throughout the year and may be asked to provide some personal safety equipment for the workplace.

You may be entitled to extra funding but you will still be able to claim benefits for your day-to-day life.

What can I do after this course?

You can progress to a meaningful voluntary placement or paid employment.
