This course will provide an introduction for beginners and the opportunity for more advanced creativity in art and design for those wishing to improve their skills and understanding.
There are no entry requirements.
The course will cover the basics of drawing and painting, with as much development in a personal direction as can be arranged. There will be set activities designed to develop clear spatial skills, to learn about the formal elements of art and design and to set you off in an individual creative direction of your own. Mixed media and three dimensional elements may be a possibility.
There is no assessment, but feedback will be continual through discussion and advice.
Some specialist equipment may be required, depending on your individual direction.
The course should prepare you for personal creative enjoyment.
A course such as this would enable you to develop a portfolio of work to present should you wish to begin the process to enter mainstream education.
Other adult courses, such as the UAL Award in Drawing commencing in January 2021, may be options for you after this course.
Peak Award winner Jamie Holmes showed there are no barriers to success if you have genuine creative talent. Profoundly deaf, Jamie joined the College from the Royal School for the Deaf and was supported by a signer throughout his studies.
He excelled on his Art and Design Diploma, specialising in fashion and textiles, and now has a place studying Textile Design at Huddersfield University – with his sights set on a future career in the creative industries. At our 2014 Peak Awards, Jamie won the Visual Arts prize, sponsored by Maber Associates Ltd, for his determination and willingness to improve.
When I first started at College, I was really lacking in confidence but I had so much help and support that I really found myself and I am looking forward to making the most of university.
