Course Summary

This is an introductory course in Basic Digital Skills in ICT which will lead on to our Functional Skills in ICT programme.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements. However, you will be required to complete a brief assessment to ensure that the course is suitable for you.

Course Content

  • Familiar with different IT devices – managing/using a variety of devices – PC, laptop, tablet and mobile phone.
  • Internet safety and security – parental controls, password protection and virus checking.
  • Website searching – search engines, comparison websites, bookmarking useful pages, social media sites and internet auction sites.
  • Email – how to send, receive and read messages, video calling and social media.
  • Financial – secure websites, personal data and internet banking.
  • Applying for jobs – email alerts, uploading CVs and downloading job application forms, Universal Credit job searching, Job Centre and social housing websites.
  • Task/Project/Presentation – end-of-course project to showcase your competence in the skills you have learnt.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continually through the development of an individual learning plan.

This is a project-based course. You will be required to complete a project/presentation to showcase your competence in the skills you have learnt.
