Course Summary

Through this course, you will explore the practice of yoga to join the breath, body, mind and spirt in order to enhance mental and physical wellbeing.

In a supportive and relaxed environment, students will have the opportunity to connect to the physical and mental aspects of wellbeing and discover the benefits that yoga practice can deliver.

Entry requirements

The course is designed to accommodate students with various levels of yoga experience by embedding differentiation and modifications.  It is appropriate for those relatively new to yoga (including beginners). However, intermediate and advanced yogis who also want to practise are welcome.

The course is targeted at adults, although under 18s are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult.

The course of 11 sessions starts on January 8th and runs for 11 sessions from 17.30-19.00 through to April 1st (excluding February 19th and 26th). Sessions will be based at Broomfield Hall campus.

Course Content

The course will facilitate establishment/maintenance of good breathing practices (pranayama), development and advancement of postures (asanas) and guided relaxation techniques (meditation).

If you are unable to commit to the full programme, you also have the option to sign up for individual sessions using our PAYG option.

This course is free to Derby College Group staff.

How will I be assessed?

You will self reflect, naturally!

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

All equipment will be provided. However, students may bring their own equipment if they prefer.  The College will provide mats, blocks, bricks, straps and blankets.

You should wear light and comfortable clothing.  Yoga is practised barefoot. However, socks may be worn during relaxation.

In order to stay hydrated, and help with detoxification, you may wish to bring water to the practice.

You will be asked to complete a health questionnaire before your first session.  Please let us know of any medical conditions or injuries before practice. If you have a serious injury or medical condition, please consult your doctor before practising yoga.
