Course Summary

The workshop will involve looking at the whole concept of the fairy tale and its related imagery, from older origins to the more modern depictions and styles. It will also consider the various literary opportunities to connect with current storylines, social and political themes which effectively link with the contemporary world.

A range of well-known fairy-tale characters will be covered, considering their representation both within the period of writing and the present time, together with how the powerful and well-known characterisation/plots create a strong structure on which to devise new ways of approaching conflicting relationships and issues of power, control and freedom.
