Our Mission

Predict and serve the needs of our business and civic communities

We already improve the lives of many thousands of local people each year, providing support for younger students in partnership with local schools, young people, apprentices, adults and higher education students.

Across the Derby College Group we share a commitment to common goals, principles and purpose to have a positive impact on our students, our business and civic communities.

It is our job to ensure that individuals, communities, employers and business receive the education, training and crucial skills development the nation needs to succeed.

Our mission pathways, preparing individuals for the next phase of their lives

Our mission pathways outline the routes to success for our students that will lead to the realisation of individual goals. These pathways are the fundamental backbone of our purpose and continue to articulate how we will prepare individuals for the next phase of their lives.

All our pathways will facilitate the achievement of work and life skills and include respected academic and technical qualifications, enhanced English and maths skills, experience of the world of work, professional and personal skills, a digital skillset, positive behaviours and attitudes, informed career planning and citizenship opportunities.

Line of sight to work, co-creating talent

We have transformed our relationships and partnership work with employers and will continue to develop and grow a responsive offer to meet local priorities and skill needs. Our curriculum and apprenticeships offer will be co-created with business and employer partners though work with our Employment and Skills Academies (ESAs), Employment and Skills Boards (ESBs) and feedback from our overarching Employers’ Strategic Board./p>

We will offer holistic pathways which facilitate and nurture crucial employability skills, professional attitudes and behaviours expected in today’s competitive labour market. Our aim is to truly co-create future high calibre talent and enable individuals to realise their career ambitions.

Business start-ups, budding entrepreneurs

We will not lose sight of developing a greater culture of enterprise in all of our students. Our pathways can provide specific business start-up support for those with aspirations to own their own businesses. We will actively encourage those budding entrepreneurs with an appetite to cultivate their business ideas and to create future jobs.

Advanced study, widening participation

We will provide our students with opportunities to advance to Higher Education, be that through a HEI or Apprenticeship route. We will develop our portfolio of opportunities to access advanced and higher level study by increasing our local Higher Education and skills offer to encourage widening participation.

Career progression, advancing workplace skills

We will continue to expand our Career Learning Ladder offer to support business to meet its future workforce requirements and provide individuals with opportunities to up-skill and re-train, enabling career progression and advancement.

Positive, well-rounded citizens

We will provide an excellent education and learning experience to all our students, irrespective of their backgrounds. Our students will be distinguished by their skills, abilities, employability and their ambition to contribute to society.
