WELCOME

Dear Parent/Carer

It’s been a busy few weeks here at DCG settling students into College throughout Induction and getting started for another exciting Academic year! Take a look at the DCG student Induction video on YouTube to take a peek at what your child has been learning about life on campus.

We held some Parent and Carer Welcome events earlier in the term, if you missed them you might like to take a look at the ‘welcome‘ video on YouTube and catch a glimpse of what you missed! The video was played during the events.

COVID and face coverings

Due to an increase in Positive cases we request, as from Monday 11th October 2021, that all employees and students wear face coverings in indoor communal areas. This is a temporary control measure based on case numbers which will be closely monitored and reviewed.

Any DCG student testing positive for COVID-19 must report this to the DCG Health and Safety team immediately by filling out the Covid Positive report form. Please ensure you also follow the student absence process as normal.

The main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Speak Out against sexual harassment and peer on peer abuse campaign.

Derby College Group takes the issue of sexual harassment and peer on peer abuse seriously and will not tolerate such behaviours on campus. In the event of an incident, we will provide welfare support for the victim and take action against any student who has caused harm or breached the college code of conduct.

What DERBY COLLEGE GROUP expects of all students:

  • To speak respectfully and appropriately to your fellow students and not use sexualised language.
  • Respect other students’ personal space and not engage in inappropriate touching.
  • Not to text, post on-line or take photos of anything that may offend or harm others and damage your own digital reputation. Remember always ‘Think before you post’.

What all students can expect from DERBY COLLEGE GROUP.

  • We will listen to you and take your concern seriously and deal with it in a sensitive manner.
  • We will give support and involve you in any decision that affects you.
  • We will take disciplinary action against any student who has harmed you and/or breached the college code of conduct.

To report concerns please speak to a member of the Welfare team either face to face or via the Welfare Web Chat

Support for your child at College

When your child becomes a student at DCG they have access to a vast array of Student Support Teams, on hand to support them through every step of their journey. The support teams can assist your child whilst they are on their programme of study, and when they are deciding on their next step after College, whether that’s another course, employment, an apprenticeship or further study such as higher education.

Take a look at our Student ECO System (PDF) which explains each of the Student Support roles in more detail. Your child can contact any of our Student Support teams through the Student Sharepoint site.

Mental Health Resources

As parents and carers, there are ways you can support children and young people to give them the best chance to stay mentally healthy.

There are many strategies which you could use to support your child and understand more about Mental Health. Find out more on our Parent Support pages of the DCG website.

How to report an absence

You can report the absence by phoning the college on 0800 028 0289.
