Student Travel Options
A new direction for Derby College transport
For the academic year starting in September 2009, the whole of Derby College is undergoing a massive and exciting change. We are opening our new flagship Roundhouse campus in Derby which will provide leading-edge vocational learning facilities which are second to none. The most ambitious project in Derby College's history, the scheme is centred on historic buildings originally used for steam engine repairs. The pioneering transformation work has restored and revitalised the once-derelict grade II listed buildings.
With this big change in mind, we have created a new Green Travel Plan that looks to address the environmental impact of those travelling to and from all Derby College sites. We are looking to promote more environmentally friendly transport options, so those travelling to our sites can help us to reduce our carbon footprint, and also help us to do our bit to reduce traffic congestion in nearby areas.
With the opening of the new Roundhouse campus on Pride Park, and our existing Joseph Wright Centre already right in the centre of the city, we now have a base in the heart of Derby that means we are located perfectly to be accessed by public transport, and those choosing to cycle or walk from nearby areas will find it easier than ever to get to one of our campuses.
We would like anyone travelling to a Derby College site to think about whether or not they need to bring a car if other options are available as parking is limited, particularly at our city centre sites, and large volumes of traffic not only causes congestion but also contribute to our carbon footprint. It may seem the easiest and most convenient option but with increasing fuel and service costs, there has never been a better time to consider your transport options.
We have put this information together so anyone coming to a Derby College site can see what options are available, and then decide what transport option is best for you.
