Remote Desktop
To allow access to the Derby College network you must have an internet connection and be using browser software that supports Active X components (e.g. Internet Explorer). If you are not sure if your browser is compatible then please just try to connect anyway.
When you click next button at the bottom of the page you maybe presented with the following warnings, please follow these instructions. General information about remote connection is listed at the bottom of the page.
To access your email you can either use the link of the intranet or you can open Microsoft Outlook and it will open your mailbox by default. A shortcut to Microsoft Outlook will be on the desktop.
Internet Access
You may browse the internet by opening Microsoft Internet Explorer but sites that are blocked from within the College will still be blocked. A shortcut to Microsoft Internet Explorer will be on the desktop.
Personal Drive and Shared Drive
You can access your personal drive and the shared drive just as if you where within the College. A shortcut to your personal drive will be on the desktop but you can still access both drives from My Computer.
Printing
If you have a printer connected to the computer you are accessing the College network from then you should be able to print to it, just go to the print option within the program you are using like would normally would and select the printer from the drop down list, normally it is the first one on the list. You cannot print to any printer within the College.
Saving Files
If you have made a new file or are changing one on your personal drive then please save it to your personal drive or email it to yourself, you must not save any files to the desktop or my documents, if you do they may be lost permanently. You cannot access the hard disk drive, floppy disk drive or the CD ROM drive on your computer at home.
Logging off
When you are finished and want to log off please click start and log off, you cannot shutdown or restart this computer.
Disconnection
If for some reason your connection to the Derby College network is lost (for example your PC at home restarts or you internet connect drops out momentarily) your session will remain active for 30 minutes, this means that if you log back in within 30 minutes of being disconnected your desktop should look exactly the same as when you were disconnected.
