Two Catering and Hospitality students at Derby College have celebrated finishing their study programme by completing a week's work experience in the kitchens of The Ritz London.

Holly Rawlinson (19) from Chellaston and Sophie Brassington (19) from Normanton were originally part of a group of level three students, based at the College's Engine Shed training kitchens at the Roundhouse, who spent the day seeing behind the scenes at the world renowned hotel five-star hotel in Piccadilly.

Derby College has teamed up with the award-winning Bespoke Inns group to provide practical work experience for learners on the higher education Hospitality Management programme at the Roundhouse.

Three learners have so far joined the Bespoke Inns Hospitality Management Academy which is the latest stage in the College's Employer Academy programme - designed to bridge the gap between education and the workplace.

The Cricket Derbyshire Hospitality Academy gives learners from Derby College a wide range of work experience and paid work opportunities at the various banqueting and hospitality venues at the 3aaa County Ground – working alongside the club's Derbyshire Experience conference and events operation.

Catering and Hospitality students at Derby College and Buxton and Leek College went head to head in a Cook Off challenge held at Derby College's Engine Shed training restaurant at the Roundhouse, Pride Park.

Students at Derby College's training kitchen and restaurant hosted more than 60 guests for the pre-dinner for the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon on Saturday night.

Guests included top chef Gordon Ramsay and F1 driver Jenson Button who were guests of honour at the dinner to celebrate the prestigious event being held in Derby for the first time on Sunday July 12.
