Famous Paintings Take Pride of Place
Digital canvas print copies of Joseph Wright’s most famous paintings now have pride of place at Derby College’s city centre campus named in his memory.

The copies of the six originals which are exhibited at Derby Museum and Art Gallery and Pickford’s House Museum have been hung at the Joseph Wright Centre which is home to nearly 1,500 A level and BTEC vocational students.

Jay Trivedy, Derby College Vice Principal and Head of the Joseph Wright Centre explained: “It is extremely apt that copies of Joseph Wright’s paintings should now be prominently displayed in the campus named in his honour – particularly as it was recently the 275th anniversary of his birth.

“We are delighted with the digital canvas copies which are as stunning as the originals and have caused a great deal of interest amongst students, staff and visitors who now have a greater appreciation of this famous 18th century artist.”

Derby Museum’s Keeper of Art Lucy Salt said: “It is fantastic that the next generation is gaining an appreciation of Joseph Wright’s work.

“He was one of the most progressive and innovative artists of his time and was known as Wright of Derby as he lived here throughout his career.”
