First Academy Student Clinches Job

The first student from Derby College's Professional Construction Career Academy has clinched a coveted job with a leading Midlands construction  group following a summer internship.

Jack Wood (18) from Oakwood was selected to join the Career Academy as part of his Professional Construction course at Derby College based at The Roundhouse.

He was part of a group who have benefited from being personally mentored by professionals from local construction companies, attend "Guru Lectures" by construction experts, join site visits and complete a six-week paid internship at the construction organisations participating.

Record Breaking Project at Derby College

Derby College will mark this year's National Apprenticeship Week with a series of activities including showcasing a pioneering project aiming to break the motorcycle land speed record.

The Angelic Bulldog project is led by former Manx GP rider Gabriel Uttley from York, supported by more than 70 volunteers throughout the UK , who are helping to design and build the motorcycle to make it capable of reaching speeds of over 400 mph.
