Course Summary

This is a GCSE programme with two main pathways:

Pathway 1  is aimed at students who have been home-schooled or have missed school for a valid reason and have therefore not achieved any - or have achieved few - GCSE grades.  This course is geared towards students aged 16+.

Pathway 2  is aimed at students who have achieved grade Ds in their GCSEs and need to improve these grades in order to progress to an appropriate Level 3 course.

Entry requirements

Pathway 1
Students will need to achieve Level 1 screening in Maths and English and will have to attend an interview.

Pathway 2
Students will need to achieve Level 1 in their screening results in both Maths and English and to have attained grade Ds in subjects that they wish to resit. Students will need an overall C/D profile.

Course Content

Pathway 1
Students will complete up to five GCSEs including compulsory subjects which are English and Maths. Other options include GCSE Science, Media, Business, History, Geography and Psychology. You will also have a regular tutorial and complete work experience activities.

Pathway 2
GCSE resits will be available in English, Maths and Science. You will also have a regular tutorial and complete work experience activities.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout both courses you will be assessed on a regular basis within class and through set homework. You will have controlled assessments and some of the different elements of your courses may include coursework.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

There are no additional costs incurred on the programme.

What can I do after this course?

The GCSE Plus programme can allow you to progress to a number of Level 3 courses at the College. In order to progress to A-levels, you will need to achieve at least a grade 5 in English Language, 4 in Maths and C/4 in three other subjects. For Level 3 vocational courses, you will need to refer to the specific entry requirements for each area.
